SEPTEMBER SHOPFEST PHILIPPINES 2008

     First of all, it promotes the Philippines as an international shopping destination by offering Filipino products as planned by Tourism Secretary Durano.

     It was also made to provide aid to neglected local retailers who provide Filipino products. This program opens a new opportunity for our local brands to be known world wide not just as an affordable substitute but as a quality product.

     This shopfest was made as a strategic move to compete with the other campaigns which happened earlier this year such as the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale which was a big hit.

     Although the program is known as a sale the prices wouldn’t be forced to change. Durano is confident that our prices could compete without giving discounts; it is solely based on finding the right targeted market, tourist. The tourists view our prices as affordable due to their higher economic status. However some participating shops may still follow, for namesake, the sale.

     With promotional ads spread throughout countries like Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, tourist all around Asia who have experienced the quality and the affordability of our products would surely come back for more because of this campaign. They may also bring family and friends which would amount to a big boost in our economy.

     Although it is called the September Shopfest, the promotion would still continue even after the month of September. The month of September was set as a deadline for other retail shops to join the program.

SM Mall of Asia

The 'SM Mall of Asia' (also known as MOA) is the largest shopping mall in the Philippines and is the 3rd largest shopping mall in the world in terms of Gross Leasable Area according to Forbes Magazine, after the South Dongguan Mall (China) and Golden Resources Mall (China). It opened on May 21, 2006. It is owned and operated by SM Prime Holdings, under the management of Henry Sy, a Chinese-Filipino business tycoon.
